- Ritual Ceremony of the Flying Men
In the Plaza del Volador music of drum and flute is Heard, its Mothers Nature heart beat and the song of the birds of the forest: the communication with the gods. Four dancers approach in a row to the flying pole to bring back to life the ancient bow: the Ceremonia Ritual de Voladores.
With the sound of forgiveness, to earth, they call the Wind´s God, they ask for his protection to start the flight. Once the blessing is received, they play the sound of the four cardinal points, between the earth and the skies, to ask permission to the four elements also. They rise, slowly, dressed in withe and red clothes. They take their places in the top of the flying pole, in a height of more than 20 meters. On his feet, in the center of the dancers, above the apple, the fifth dancer, the caporal, he communicates with the sun: is the sound of invocation. To the rhythm of the flight´s sound, the four bird-men throw themselves to the edge and they give three turns flying, this three multiplied by the number of dancers result on the fifty-two years of the cosmic cycle that is renewed.
